Sneaky Cheap Route - Fly to Katowice
Katowice is only 40 mins (80km) from Krakow by Taxi, and there are direct flights to Katowice for far less than Krakow. Try EasyJet, WizzAir and Ryan Air for direct options.
For the best value for money and comfort - Easyjet is now in my eyes far better than any of the others. Lufthansa always seems to be the most expensive - and everytime I fly Ryanair I feel like I'm getting on a bus.
What to check on Your Travel Policy: Check your cover has included - pre-existing medical conditions. Some policies will not pay out if you have a pre-existing medical condition which results in a claim.
High excesses - The higher the policy excess the lower the premium usually is. This is not always clear with travel insurance companies until a medical claim is made and you find out that your claim falls within the excess.
Wear and tear on baggage claims – Home insurance typically provides 'new for old' cover. Most travel insurance policies do not provide this cover as standard
Policies with very specific exclusions – especially in an attempt to get premiums to the lowest level possible will use difficult exclusions which inevitably trap people through the claims process. For example skiing often isn't covered and some policies insist on police reports where is might be very difficult to obtain in reality.
Missed connections, If you are delayed getting to the airport and as a consequence miss your flight connection, most policies will not cover the additional costs that may occur as a result so flight changes or hotels stays will nto be covered.
6 Reasons why you won’t buy travel insurance
1) The chances of my flight being delayed or canceled is very slim. WRONG: Travel delays and cancellations due to weather, faulty aircraft or strike actions are on the increase.
2) My luggage has never been lost or delayed. REALITY: The largest airline in the world has problems and delays with 26 out of every 1000 bags. Can you really afford to be part of that statistic?
3) I live in Europe all healthcare is free. FACT: Healthcare is free if you travel with a completed E111 form. However repatriation is not. If you need to get home and be treated close to your family, you or your family will need to pay for this.
4) I have never cancelled a trip. REALITY: One day you will have to. You cannot predict your health in advance and if you fall ill and cannot travel you will need to cancel. Travel Insurance will pay your flight costs. Remember also, airlines are stricter nowadays on who they allow to travel. If you look ill they won't let you board the plane.
5) My credit card covers me. FACT: Your credit card insurance will probably cover your actual travel insurance but most won't include medical as well. A specific travel insurance will cover you for both.
6) I'll get it with my plane ticket. BETTER: An annual policy is usually only twice the amount you'll pay for a one trip policy. Therefore is pays to get an annual one - that way you will have to deal with once!
